The representatives of the FIP BLUES project have met last January in Madrid with the General Director of Fisheries Management and Aquaculture, Mr. Ignacio Gandarias. In this meeting the first steps needed, to include the Ministry in this improvement project of the blue shark and swordfish fisheries, were taken.
This project aims the adoption of standards by the fishery organizations to improve the sustainability levels in longline fishing, giving visibility of these good practices in the distribution chains, environmental NGOs and final consumers.
This initiative involves 4 fishery producer organizations (OPROMAR, ORPAGU, OPP-07 Lugo and OPPC-3) and 12 companies, members of the ANECTEAM association.
